I have a pair of early 20th century boots, a strange khaki taupe coloured leather.. and am having trouble finding laces long enough, or even to know what would be period appropriate.. anyone have a suggestion? Thanks!

Re: Laces for 26-eyelet boots?
Tue, February 19, 2008 - 11:46 PM90-100 inches of a shoelace would be appropriate and *should be* long enough. There is a handy site that will calculate your shoelace length for you- www.fieggen.com/shoelace/s...acecalc.php but as shoes that laced were just becoming popular in the early 20th century, there is not much information otherwise. After looking up various antique shoes for sale, it appears most shoelaces of the period were round, I assume lucet-braided or something similar? -

Re: Laces for 26-eyelet boots?
Wed, February 20, 2008 - 12:37 PMif you're located in Alameda, I had Larry, a cobbler on Webster, order 100-inch laces for me. He still has them in stock. Otherwise, you can often go to your local cobbler and ask them if they have them, can cut some for you, or order them.

Mon, February 25, 2008 - 2:18 PMYes, Lucet braids would do fine.
If you need some, let me know. I can make them as long as you like. -
